Hi all,

I've developed a very small and simple module to manage domain names and related hosting packages. It was developed as an in-house project but we've decided to give something back to the community and release it to dotmods.

Basically its main purpose is to allow us to add domains (and hosting packages) to the system with their expiry date so we can quickly see when we need to renew domains or hosting.

The code needs to be cleaned up, and when an official API is released I'll probably go ahead and recreate this module. I didn't have much time to develop it, and I won't have much time in the near future, so if anyone wants to maintain this project please let me know.

If you have any suggestions, please let me know. The documentation can be found at: http://docs.dotproject.net/index.php/Hosting_Module

Cheers,

Michael Belos

Just a semantical thing, but if you called it a "subscription manager", could it handle software licenses for projects, support contracts for customers, and magazine subscriptions for companies?

I think you're on to something here, but I think people need to understand how *they* could use it. ;)

Yeah that's not a bad idea! Potentially you could use this module for anything that has an expiry date attached to a client. I've used "Domains" and "Hosting" everywhere, but that doesn't mean you can't use it the way you suggested.

If I make a second release, I'll definately make it more generic so that you can use it however you like. Like I said, I don't have much time these days, but I want to eventually go through and make this module much more functional and powerful soon. Hopefully an official API gets released in the near future, because that would be a great help! Until then, feel free to hack away at it...

Thanks heaps for the suggestion - much appreciated! If you have any more, please feel free to post...

Cheers,

Michael B

Glad to be of service.

Yes, I'd love to see an Official API released... there are a few ideas still on that drawing board.

Follow the link to the documentation in the first post in this thread and you'll know all the details of the module as it stood at release.
