Using "Mail self on New Task" patch but it breaks

I applied this patch from the Sourceforge site:

However once i apply it to DotProject 1.0.2 things no longer work, an example is when trying to change user preferences as the admin user i get the following error:

Warning: main(./modules/admin/addedituser.php): failed to open stream: Permission denied in D:\devdotproject\index.php on line 224

I use Cygwin to patch the source with patch.

Any help (or indeed, another way so if a user creates a task it emails them as well) would be greatly appreciated :)

I Have been advised by my employer to find a fix for this and soon, so if i am required to pay the maintainer of dotproject in order to make this patch work, can someone please inform me as to where i need to contact or make payment to in order to fix this patch.
