remove the automatically generated file type and put the file type that you specify when uploading the file column in and make all the columns sortable. Would like to see this in the project view of files.
When I upload an AutoCAD Drawing it tells me drawing type vnd.dwg and workd says msword I would like to be able to see something like AutoCAD 2xxx dwg or Word.
Also would be nice to have some way to sort the file order (little up down arrows or something)
Thanks for all the hard work!

Automatically detecting and identifying every file type is a little unreasonable, but check out my comments on this issue - http://www.dotproject.net/mantis/view.php?id=102 - if a user could do a bit of tagging (and the related filtering) it might make things significantly easier.

I don't want it to automatically detect and tag, I want to replace the filetype that shows up with a file type we set. An extra data column where I can go and place all the file types I use and when I upload the file I select the file type from a drop down list. Just add a field where the user puts in their file type to their liking and delete the automatically generated file type all together.

What you're requesting is not difficult but would be time consuming. You might also consider doing it yourself. There's a ton of php/mysql programming advice on the web.

How about a new sticky on the top:

"Chances are we don't have the time or desire for your feature request so don't waste your time even asking. Here are some links to some php / mysql tutorials.... Learn it yourself or dish out some cash"

Thanks for your time.

Gregc: Had I wanted to sound arrogant I certainly could have. Afterall, I *am* from New York :)

The fact remains that what you see as a feature request I see as a personal modification request especially since I haven't noticed an overwhelming tide of requests or support for this "feature." The best method for achieving a personal mod is either a) by doing it yourself or b) by hiring someone to do it for you. (By the way, it wouldn't be me bidding on any marketplace projects. I don't do that, however, I have, on a few occasions, hired one of the dP programmers to make personal mods for me.)

You may also access the dp Mantis system (http://www.dotproject.net/mantis/) and add your feature request to the list of other open feature requests where it will be given due consideration and prioritization by the development team.

What I'm really getting at is please keep in mind that we are a voluntary organization doing the best we can within our own capabilities and time constraints. Based on the amount of help we *do* provide here, I think we deserve the benefit of the doubt.

Have a nice day.

Actually, if you check out what went into the 2.0.2 release, you'll see that *many* of the things came as a direct result of comments, feedback, and requests from the community. I personally pride myself on tracking down dotProject users and administrators and getting feedback.

Unfortunately, not every comment is equally as useful/possible as every other. If a request gets made repeatedly by different people, it quickly moves it up my priority list. Alternatively, if someone is willing to pay for it, it moves it up my priority list. The rest of the list may be gotten to, but priorities are priorities.

If I see a request from a single user, it doesn't supplement another priority I have, and they're not willing to pay for it, then it's just never going to make it very high for me personally.

It's nothing personal against you at all. It just means that you'll likely have to wait.
