Adding users to projects

Hi,

dotProject is awesome but got a couple of questions! Is it possible to add specific users to projects, i.e. so it is possible to see what users are involved in what projects. Also is it possible for a user who has logged in to see what projects they are involved in and possibly only allow them to see those projects?

Any problems seting the permissions or are you only asking if this is possible?
It is possible to set permissions the way you spoke.

Go to system admin., roles, create a new role say 'project viewer', now click on the lock image.

Now set:

companies; grant view
projects; grant access

Now go to Users Admin., click on a user of this type and on the Roles tab delete any that exist there, and add this 'project viewer' Role.

Now on his permission tab add :

project A; grant view
project B; grant view
project C; grant view
project D; grant view
...

Try that and see for yourself, when the user logs in he will only see a link to the projects list, then he will only be able to select the projects that you permited him to view.

Thats great thanks! What about assigning users to projects? Is that a feature of dotProject? If so where can I do that?

You assign users to tasks not projects. So when you add a task you determine in the tasks Human Resources the Assignees and their % of ocupation for that task.

Eitherway you can link contacts (every user has a contact by the way) and departments to projects, if that's what you mean...

The reason I ask is I was thinking it would be nice to have a way of seeing who was involved in what project without them having to have tasks in it. Can this be done using contacts?

You can add the contacts you want, in that way you can do what you are thinking. It is a manual work though, it will not be automatic.
