Hello everyone I have had a good look at this form and cannot see my question answered here. So here it is.
I cannot add a task.
I don’t get any error messages.
I enter the required task fields and
click on the save button but nothing happens
I am using the admin user.
I have created the company and the project.
I have dumped and refreshed the database
And started from scratch and did it again.
I have the same problem on your demo and the demo at
http://opensourcecms.com
I’m stumped

I cannot duplicate the problem, I can add tasks on the demo site, and on the opensourcecms.com demo as well. What browser are you using?

And what are you entereing in the fields?
Pay attention that you set the status corretly and to filter the task view in a way to see all available tasks.

Still Frustrated
I thought perhaps I was unable to save a task due to the fact that I did not have a java enabled browser
I successfully loaded the latest Java plug-in to my Version of Explorer 6.0.28. I also downloaded the latest version of Netscape 7.1 and successfully installed java
I am working with your demo instance of dotproject although it doesn’t make a difference which one I use I still have this problem.
It’s just not fair. If you all can add tasks, why can’t I?
Today I went to the ‘Shane’ project and attempted to add a task. All I did was type the task name as ‘taskname’ and pressed the save button.
Theoretically this should be all I have to do since all required fields are filled in. On this screen I cannot access the start and finish date fields and the “calendar” button does not work for me.

Are you running any pop-up blockers or Zone Alarm Pro - that will kill the calendar/start/end dates?

Good Suggestion Graham
I have tried it with the Pop up stopper both on and off. On other fields were the calendar is used such as the project data entry form. I can access the calendar no problem. So it is only on the task form where I have the problem.
I cannot access the start and finish date fields and the “calendar” button does not work for me. When I click on the save button the button indicates it has been pressed but nothing happens.
I am so frustrated because I really want to use this application I have been trying for a month to figure this one out.
Still stumped
Sorry to see that you've still got problems Therese.
Java shouldn't be the issue as we don't use Java - but we do use Javascript which is a completely different thing. I'm assuming that you've not got that turned off or some security setting that is blocking Javascript - but you had better check that.
Some versions of Netscape have a javascript console which you can use to display errors - it might be worth tracking that down and letting us know if you manage to find any errors that aren't explained under general Javascript functionality.

For me it sounds like a Javascript-problem.
Did you check if your Browser has javascript-enabled ?
A quick help to this is here (http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams/install/enabling-javascript.html)

I'M IN! Yes indeedy! :o :o :o
The problem was the setting on my Norton firewall. It was set to high when I set it to medium it worked. Theoretically I should not have had a problem with the high setting but I did. So here is the solution to any one who has this problem. One for the FAQ files.
Here was the Problem
On the Task form I cannot access the start and finish date fields and the “calendar” button does not work for me. When I click on the save button the button indicates it has been pressed but nothing happens.
I'm really looking forward to using dotProject on a daily basis.

NOTE TO ALL WEB DEVELOPERS!!
Norton Internet Security is installed and enabled on most new cookie-cutter machines these days. I have been tackling various problems of late and they are all resolved when Norton is either modified or removed.
Problems I've seen:
- Javascript failing or not being downloaded at all
- Some graphics not being downloaded, especially if they are close to the dimensions of typical banner ads
- HTML code section being stripped out of downloaded HTML files (one perfect example is IMG tags with HEIGHT/WIDTH attributes that are close to the dimensions of typical banner ads)
Also note that this is not a browser plugin. Even using a command-line tool the file is being munged!
And each time I figure out what has caused it I am simply floored...and we're all going to get bitten by this at some point.
Googling for problems in this area was not easy to find discussion on the topic either...
Hope this helps someone out there avoid time loss,
mobiGeek.

Thanks for the info MobiGeek. I suggest hardware based firewalls to my friends rather than a PC based one. This is good to know about Norton since a lot of people indeed use it!

I had the same problem but found with Internet Security 2005 that it was the Ad-blocker being enabled that was the problem.

I am experencng exactly the same problem with the current CVS (05/01/05). I can discount the Norton issue as It also happens at my office where Norton isn't used.
When I load the Task page and or try to add a task I see 'Page error' at the bottom left hand side of the browser window.
Happens on both IE and Firefox.
I can display the Java errors with Fox but too much detail for this post!
Does anyon have any other idea as this is really frustrating!
I have moved from version 1.02 on a Windows machine to Ver2 Beta on a hosted Unix Server.
Any help would be much appreciated.

OK using Firefox JavaScript Toolbox I can see the following Errors:
Error: syntax error
Source File: http://2mbs.net/dotproject/dotproject/js/base.js
Line: 1
Source Code:
html>
Error: subForm is not defined
Source File: http://www.2mbs.net/dotproject/index.php?m=tasks&a=addedit&task_project=1
Line: 376
Error: changeRecordType is not defined
Error: submitIt is not defined
Interstingly enough on the create task form there are no date fields to complete! perhaps a consiquience of the JS errors?
This problem is griving me nuts anyhelp would be much appreciated..

OK as FYI;
I've installed version 1.0.2 on an identical server i.e. same ISP different account and url. Works perfectly so I suppose I can discount Browser and Firewall Issues ?
