I have been a user of the 1.x version of dotProject for a while, and really like it except for the permissions system.
It's time for me to make some decisions on going forward, since I have gotten to the point where I need to be giving my customers access to my Projects system. I can be patient to wait for the new version of dotProject if I knew how it worked and that it would meet my minimum requirements. I have looked over the site and references, and really can't find a description of how it's supposed to work.
My basic needs are that I have to allow my clients in to participate in forum discussions, view overall project progress, maybe allow/disallow access to task logs, *certainly* prevent access to hourly task hours spent and billing codes, and prevent access to particular reports, or at least all reports. That's way more than what v1 could do, but I don't know if this fits in with what v2 is supposed to accomplish.
All the info I see is that cvs is still very unstable, and in cvs there are still recent notes that perms (and roles?) are still being addressed; otherwise I just install and test. That seems somewhat unproductive at this point.
Thanks
